I apologize, Clair is right the perches do need moved. I first looked at this page on Moparts Tech, which is wrong. Upon further checking on Auto Hobby Digest's 8 3/4 page, the C perches are 47.3" and the E is 46". So you just need to move the perches, which is no big deal. Make sure and check out the Auto Hobby site, it has the most complete documentation on the 8 3/4" I have found. It also covers the Dana 60.
Glen is also very correct in stating the 8 3/4 is a very capable rear, and a stock 518 will not last long behind a big block.
Mr. Mopper, the bellhousing on the 518 can be changed and adapted to a big block. But unless the trans is completely rebuilt to much stronger specs, a big block will shred a stock 518.
While I think a 8 3/4" is more than capable for my 500hp street ambitions, I do think I would have a hard time walking away from this deal! In the end I would probably flip it for a profit though.

Thanks for the info. The link to Auto Hobby Digest has been saved!

My BB should be around 525-550hp. I guess the 8 3/4 would be OK. I would just hate to spend the money building my 8 3/4 and then grenade it.
From what I was told the Dana came from a '70 Hemi Cuda. It supposedly has the factory 4.10's and Sure-Grip. It was bought from John Gunderman (Gunderman's Performance, Indianapolis) back before the whole musclecar craze started. My cuz has had it just sitting all these years doing nothing. I'll have to find out for sure if it is the genuine thing or not.
The 518 is weak in stock form, true. I plan to purchase mine from SMR unless I find a really cheap one to build myself. SMR or Transmissions1 will sell you everything to build up a 518.
Kelly, you can go into Auto Hobby Digests 8 3/4 page, that Scott provided us with(great info by the way), go to the DANA page, and check out where to locate those Date codes and other #s on the axle tube on the right hand side of the diff cover.Take special care as to get any rust or paint off this area as you do NOT want to damadge this important info. You may have a GOLD MINE sitting at you're fingertips. Are the DRUMS with it?(MO MONEY).If it checks out i would contact Roger Gibson or some other restoration places and see what they have to say.You could post it on an, "E" body site, and who knows you might come out with a fully prepped SMR 518 w/killer Torque converter and enough "SCRATCH" left over to get a good set of axles also for that perfectly good 8 3/4 housing. The "E" guys will jump all over that DANA.....Glen

He he, you aren't suggesting taking advantage of those deep pocket E-body guys are you?
The Dana doesn't have the brakes. Heck, it doesn't even have the backing plates. I'll check those numbers next time I'm back home. If it really is a factory Dana for a Hemi Mopar I'll sell it for sure!

My mechanic has a street driving Duster running stock axles and stock sure-grip 3.91 gears 8 3/4.. runs 11.80 @ 115 with 1.58 short times... It lives.. no braces, no nothing.. just strong stock parts from the factory
