sounds about right, so all and all the 440 source stuff isnt that bad for the money. with that kind of power its not hard to blow stuff up even parts made in the good old USA. just glad the track crew caught the water coming out the head before i went. sure it would have went bango!!! ps those numbers dont take in to acount the fact that the car is shaped like a brick

I have seen them cracked way worse than that, also in a supercharged engine. One local guy cracked three of them badly in his Duster until believing that those heads really weren't meant for him. We have one set on a 400 with a 6-71 and they have been fine so far. However, that engine really isn't that powerful. And a set of RPM Edelbrocks on a 528 with a 8-71, they have also been trouble free. On the other hand, the 8 3/4"..... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IVeBxNEFEN4

I wouldn't be afraid of them on a 500hp street/bracket engine at all. At 875hp anything not top shelf is a risk. Good news is that you did catch it so that your short block is fine.

Jeff, being that much BHP, I would have to imagine you are using ARP STUDS for those heads. What gasket? Where I'm going...since aluminum heads expand at a faster rate, do you feel this is not a cooling issue and more of a power issue? I'm getting at rapid expansion/clamping (torque spread) force on your engine. You'd be crazy to use head bolts. I know you are MUCH smarter than that! Seems the crack is at a corner of the head. Could this be a "hot pocket" area? I wonder. Sound off. Tony P.
yes the whole engine is ARP as far as heat ? engine has never been over 190f most of the time 170-180 felpro 1009 gaskets / mopar proformance more of a weak pocket from combustion chamber it to water jacket [ Edited Thu Sep 16 2010, 05:49PM ]
