I'm gonna make some adjustment t !drive o my cam this spring so while I'm at it, might as well put that aluminum water pump on. Has anyone heard anything positive about the 440 source c body water pump and housing? Seems they were having some problems a while back with poorly machined outlet openings and water flow restrictions.
I have one of them, it is about 4 yrs old. Everything bolted up perfect, all the ports were good, and no problems cooling. I think they are using a different casting now though. The last I looked, they had the 440 source logo, and mine doesn't.

There was a big thread on moparts about it, appeared that it was very obvious if you got the casting with the tiny ports compared to stock. I don't think it was a machining problem, the actual casting itself had very narrow ports.

If 440 Source is using a different casting now, that MAY be a good thing. If I recall correctly, they were selling the same (unbranded) housings as CAT and they both had the same problem before. I don't remember whether the problem was with the casting or the machining. I think it was a machining problem where the passages weren't made large enough. If so, a different casting probably wouldn't make any difference in whether the problem was resolved.

I bought the 440Source pump and housing. The only issue I have is slightly higher than thermostat temps when cruising. My gauge reads 190 degrees F. It goes higher when going up hills but hasn't spiked over 210 yet.
FWIW I drove my car from the coast up to over 4000 ft in the heat of summer last year and these are the temps I saw. OTOH the heater was on the whole time, not by choice so that probably helped with cooling. Maybe the 440 source stuff is junk? !tape

Since this woke back up. If you have the later backwards housing then I think 440 source is the only source for aluminum. Also as far as I saw with the complaints they were for the earlier style and it was the pump causing most of the problem not the housing even though the ports were constricted looking. [ Edited Fri Jan 22 2010, 05:53PM ]
