John, According to the FSM for '67, there were 2 brands of 2bbl carbs used on the 383.
The Standard Ball and Ball model #'s BBD-4296S and BBD-4297S
The Special (CAP-Cleaner Air Package) Ball and Ball model #'s BBD-4306S and BBD-4307S
These can be identified by a green tag attached to the air horn mounting screw. I'm assuming the tag will have the model # on it.
The WWC3 Series Stromberg is the other. Model # WWC3-276
I'm going on memory now but I know the Stromberg has the name and model # on it somewhere, I just cant remember where. I bought a rebuild kit years ago for the one on my 'vert before I upgraded to a 4bbl. I didn't have the FSM then, so I know I got the info right off the carb.

!welcome and Merry !santa
I have a 67 300 'vert. This forum is a great source of information and the members are kind and helpful...I've been here a few years now and it is one of my favorite sites!!
As far as carb problems go, well, welcome to that club too!! Such problems are pretty common....I just changed my entire intake system hoping to end carb problems. Guess what?? NOT!
unfortunatly the standard air box wasnt fitted to the motor when i got it and it looks like someone has been messing so i cant see any of the tags you mention. i will have a look at the carb to see if i can make out any of the info you wrote down. its very much appreciated ta.
i think my accelrator pump isnt working as it has a terrible 'hesitation' when you accelarate away from a full stop.
still thinking of going to a four barrel set up at some point tho !thumb <span class='smallblacktext'>[ Edited Tue Dec 22 2009, 05:52PM ]</span>
John, I assume that when you say air box(English) that is the air cleaner(American).
The air horn is actually the top section of the carb itself. If there is a green tag to be found, it will be under one of the screws that holds the air horn to the rest of the carb.
In the FSM service diagnosis there are 8 possible causes for poor acceleration. Seven of them point toward the accelerator pump and it's related parts. The other 1 is incorrect timing. So you are probably on the right track.
I am very happy with the 4bbl Edelbrock intake and carb. I can't remember the exact ones I bought, but they were a sale package from Mancini Racing. It was a standard or mild upgrade, nothing fancy. I'm a cruiser, not a racer. I asked the fella at Mancini his opinion and went with it. All totalled it was around $650-$700 for everything 4 years ago.
i asked the question a while back about what 4bbl carb to use and the replys tended to be a 650 vac sec holly. trouble is i do like edelbrocks as i have run a couple on some che*ys ive had. what cfm or model would people recommend?
A stock 383 2bbl with the 256*/260* cam will run exceptionally well with an Eddy Performer intake and 650 cfm carb, either AFB or AVS versions are fine.
If you are planning on upgrading to a bigger cam later on, then the Performer RPM intake with a 750 cfm would be the way to go.
IMHO Holleys are junk and the one piece main body of a Carter or Edelbrock is the way to go. Not really much of a chance for any leaks, with only one real gasket in the whole works. I have seen holleys flood fuel all over an engine from leaking gaskets after sitting over the winter.

I have to take the other side. I would never have an Edelbrock carb and I have the personal experiences to go with it. I also know some friends that have great luck with them. But no one will ever convince me to put one on my car. So my opinion would be the 650 Street Avenger from Holley. The Edelbrock intakes are always a good choice.
