Wow fantastic advice! If I was a rich and famous rock star I'd put a 426 Hemi under the hood or even a brand new crate motor, yeah I'll take a 6.2 Hemi , perfect.... Dreamin! someday.... Hey how much do you want for those interior panels?

Gears and cubic inches are the key to performance. The easiest and cheapest way to add cubes to your 318 is to replace it with a 360. And, the reality is that if you want more power a few upgrades on the ole 318 aren't going to make you happy........

I dunno Dana. All I have ever owned were block displacements that started with a 4 all my life, except for one 72 Coronet wagon and a Duce and a 1/4 Dart. Kinda sick if 'em. Besides, I am loving the 19 MPG around town on my 360 71F3. I am also loving seeing the spark plugs and changing them when hot.
I guess for a budget, in this order, Exhaust,- 2 1/4 duals, Card- 600 CFM Edelbrock, then cam or both at the same time. Just make sure the motor is sound. Then go do the ignition with a MSD box and pointless ignition. [ Edited Fri Jun 23 2006, 05:41PM ]

The cheapest performance upgrade for you might be the junkyard 360 Magnum motor from a 90's Dodge Ram pickup. Yank all the electronic gizmos off and put a carb, ignition & manifold from Mopar Performance to convert it from the computer. That motor has nice heads and hi-po exhaust manifolds already, and a roller cam to boot! Then, someday when you have more coin to throw at it, you can put the wiring and computer back on it with that lovely "beer barrel" intake, run high pressure fuel lines to it, and you will have what 71F3 is doing to his Polara as we speak. Mopar Performance is working on a "plug & play" wiring harness for that, so they should have the kinks worked out by the time you do it....

Stitcher is passin wind. He's trying to get you to downgrade a Magnum motor.
You could do what I am doing right now. . . . Putting a magnum 318 in my Polara. Except for the trans mount, it's almost a drop in. But you'll need exhaust. If you can find a donor truck cheap enough, you'll have everything you need. The swap isn't that expensive if the motor and trans are good. The only thing that is expensive is the electric cooling fans. Can't put on a shroud. I got the details if you know where to find a 92 or 93 Dodge Pickup or Dakota.
I am hoping to do the startup tomorrow. I need to connect 8 wires and the fuel lines to the rails. Can't wait.

Sprotfury413 said what I first thought of too, but you want to keep the 318. It's already been said intake.carb. headers and a gear. However the six pack would be way cool you only run on the center carb until you you get into the higher rpm's and vacuum pulls the end carbs open, you can change out the springs and have them come in even later. I have never herd anyone say "wow it's got a 4 barrel" and the 340 intake will bolt right up.

Allright the facts about making performance upgrades on a small block c body.duals, dual plane intake,600-650 carb, elect. ignt shift kit convert and gears.Dont forget a cam that makes torq.Trust me you dont have to pull those small blocks my car runs 12s in the quarter.
