Has anyone here toyed with the idea, or actually put a new Hemi in one of their C bodys? I've heard good and bad things about them, so I'm just looking for ideas and opinions. The new Hemi's are a lot cheaper to get a hold of than the old ones. I think it would be cool to build a nice little sleeper some day out of my Newport, but it's just ambitious thinking right now. !drive

Would fit good I think, small package overall. It will bolt up to a SB 904 or 727 but the smart thing would be to get a wreck with all the electronics & use the 5-speed auto with it. Get the dash too.
There are conversion harnesses out there so you can use the 904/727 still have all the other functions.
go here & read some, lotsa good info on the swap here ( ignore the Chevy stuff! ).

I have an 06 300C Hemi and no problems with the motor whatsoever. People have already stuffed a Gen3 in a 71 Valiant 4door,so fitting ina C should be pie. I think your idea stuffing a Gen3 Hemi in a C is a great idea. Building a 70 300H with a new Hemi would be awesome!! Or any year Fury III but the III would be used as the Gen 3 Hemi moniker,LOL I.E FURY Gen III Or grab a 66 Belvedere/Sattelite,stuff a new Hemi in it and use the HP3 badges,LOL! [ Edited Fri Oct 16 2009, 11:05AM ]

I like new, early, and 426. The 426 deserves a class all its own. !thumb
omho
(although, come to think of it, I kind of like the idea of converting my Fury to a Fury Gen lll) [ Edited Fri Oct 16 2009, 11:44AM ]

There are a few threads on Moparts.com regarding 5.7/6.1 swaps, but none for a C-body (of course!).
Some things to watch for: need a controller for teh ignition (engine is distributorless) - MANDATORY need a controller for EFI and EFI fuel tanks/lines - or a conversion intake to go carb'ed if trying to use OEM wiring/harness you'll need a supplier to mod it for you (turn off the VIN code, ABS, etc) depending on what the donor engine comes from the oil pan may need modded or replaced the oil filter adapter setup is a clearance issue on some (or all?) of the smaller cars headers/manifolds - between truck, 300/Charger and Jeep I think they are all different - some might be a better fit than others later engines are drive-by-wire so an early throttle body is needed if using cable TB you still need kickdown linkage, if using electronic trans you'll have no way to use your original mech speedo
There are a lot of little details in this conversion (some big ones too). I have reserached it a bit and decided to not try it until I get a spare $4-5000 and a car worth putting that kind of money into.

Yup heavily considered it b4 I went with the efi/OD route I took. There's more and more stuff out there for the conversion, but getting the 5spd auto trannys to work still seems to be an issue. IMO it's a complete waste to put a 904/727 behind it, that engine wants some gear behind it and a 3spd auto with 3.23's would cripple it. Putting a stick behind it is a great idea, but now you've got another $5k from Keisler to add to the cost. I was quoted about $10k to source a good car based core with the benzo tranny, electronics, and all, and have working ps, a/c, etc. There is fab and elec. work that was out of my comfort zone so I was going to have to pay for it to be done.

Baumann makes some controllers for modern elec transmissions. Expensive, but most components of an expensive retrofit are that way. If it was cheap and easy, everybody woudl be doing it!

THe new Hemi's are very well built engines. My brother works in a machine shop performing engine rebuilds, both stock and modified. He has a 2004 5.7 in there right now with over 200K and the inside looks like new. The engine needed a rebuild because the exhaust valve spring on number 6 broke, damaging the piston and the valve.
Overall great engines. I'd like to have one in my 73 Imperial.

Wow, I'm glad somebody posted this question since I was just pondering the same thing! I would like to do the same thing with my 70 T&C... I agree with Butch-H's post above and actually went to that link earlier today (before I saw this thread), called them up and they are mailing me out a catalog and DVD.
I also like the idea of a Keisler 5 speed, but that might ruin the look and feel of a wagon...
Dumb question: Why did Butch suggest pulling the dash from the donor car? Just for the gauges?
And what ever happened to StationWagonGuy?? Sorry, its been about 3 years since I was here last!
