You can buy an aftermarket shift kit or valve body and have it installed in your tranny... that will fix up the overlap on the shifts..
You might want to consider getting it rebuilt.. with new clutches and bands and a shift kit... I installed the 5.0 lever in mine when it was rebuilt.. got it Mancini's.
Then you can also add a new converter... 2500stall would probably help, just make sure you add a tranny cooler and not have the lines go through the rad... why heat the tranny fluid to the same 190F you have in the rad.. you want to cool it not heat it up...
If you just change the converter it would be a good time to change the front seal on the tranny.. [ Edited Wed May 03 2006, 06:55PM ]
What is the diff between the shift kit and swapping the valvebody?A 2500 stall is a little steep.maybe something a little milder, basically just trying to get the slush out the box
I used a 69 IMP trans for my 440, they have an extra clutch I think like the Hemis used, I think. Then while it was being completely rebuilt, I got a Turbo Action Cheetah Pro Street Automatic valve body (#17676). That really crisped things up! Very Quick, firm shifts. It will bark second everytime with cheaper tires. It is also kind a cool how it downshifts as you come up to a stop. Steve would probably complain it is too harsh for cruising, but my wife has never said a word.
I was clueless on converters and just used a stock one to see how it behaved. Bad choice. It needs bumped up on the stall. I have the 440 idling at 500 rpm. It starts pulling immediatly, and I can feel the motor bogging because the RPMs aren't high enough. On perfectly flat ground it will idle along at 15mph. While I still don't understand the ratings on converters, I am told this is bad for performance.
