Has anybody tried to fit a stock dual snorkel air cleaner on top of an Eddy Performer RPM manifold? I'm starting out the new year helping yet another friend modify his 68' 300. The car has a 383 4bbl in it now (the original 440 is long gone) with log manifolds, 600cfm afb, 727 auto and 3.23 sure grip gears. The plan is to keep the car looking mostly stock, but to install a purple shaft Magnum spec cam, double roller timing chain, HP manifolds, TTI exhaust, and an intake manifold/ bigger carb.
I know the regular Eddy Performer manifold with a 1/2 spacer and stock air cleaner will clear the hood (that's what is on mine), but will the Performer RPM which is about 1 1/2" taller leave enough clearance? He wants to use the stock air cleaner so that will decide which intake we select. [ Edited ]

I was just trying this the other day on my 68 ... the dual snorkle will not clear on a 440 with out mods ... i was going to use a cheapy chome air cleaner base with the dual snorkel top and it should work ...
I was pretty sure it wouldn't work on a 440, but since the 383 sits a bit lower it might fit.... maybe someone else has used the 383/performer rpm combo and knows.
I know there are several 383's with RPM intakes running around here, not sure which air cleaners are being used. It is darn tricky on a 440! I had to use a 2" air cleaner with a 1" drop!
When putting it together, keep an eye on your clearances. I used several balls of Play-Doh in Zip Lock bags stacked around on the air cleaner while putting on my RPM. Don't need a dimpled hood!

I have a dimpled hood, for the 2nd time from the carb rod. Take that out while you're doing this! On my 383 the rpm perf fits with the EFI elbow, which is tall. I measured that I safely had 10.75" from the valley pan cross straps to the hood. My stock iron intake with a 1" spacer, DP holley, and 68 style stock unsilienced assem. fit fine. I think the EFI setup was at least 1/2" taller than that.

I couldn't use the stock '66 aircleaner on my 451 stroker setup (which has the same height as a 383) because the Edelbrock AFB carb has a larger throat than the original Carter AFB. I don't think it would've fit though. There's not a lot of clearance... I wound-up using an Edelbrock triangular aircleaner with the cast aluminum top and it just barely fits.
My tip for measuring space from carb to hood: Unscrew the carb stud. Drop a spare telescoping radio antenna in where the carb stud goes. Antenna from a portable radio or R/C car transmitter works well. Close the hood on the antenna. When you open the hood, the antenna will now show the distance from the top of the carb to the underside of the hood.

My 68 fury III has a 383 w/ a Performer RPM manifold, a 1" Nitrous plate, and the stock air cleaner wouldn't fit AT ALL. Never tried itw/out the plate, but I'm running a drop plate & an Extreme aircleaner top.
