One of my gear head buddies has a 4 speed laying around and is trying to talk me into converting the Fury into a 4 speed car. He says it has a LOW 1st gear with regular 2,3 and 4 gears. The low 1st gear would provide great get up an go power and be smooth around town while still providing a final 1 to 1 ratio. That would let me use the 3.23s for good fuel mileage. So, my Fury is numbers matching and everything works fine right now. What are your thoughts on this? !drive

If it ain't broke don't fix it. If your car had problems and wasn't numbers matching I would say go for it but since it is, Leave it alone. Just my 2 cents.

Depends if you planned to mod it in the future or keep it a nice cruiser. If it is more of a built weekend warrior I'd say go for it. If you'd rather keep it near stock with minor mods for daily driving, I'd say leave well enough alone. I toyed with the idea but it was easier just to keep my car an auto because I want to drive it A LOT and cruise it downtown and into shows/cruises with my arm wrapped around a pretty lady. !thumb

Well the biggest problem will be finding pedals and other 3-4spd stuff for your car.
Not sure if 73 still used the same pedal set-up as the 69-71-2-ish C's did....and those are extremly rare as is, can't imagine trying to find a 73 and later set-up??

I've heard this question asked many times on my Yahoo C-body group, and usually after I put some info in, well, I guess I rain on the parades. I have been collecting/selling 4-speed C-body parts for several years now, and as an owner of an original 4-speed car I've got good knowledge of the little details that are required and the difference between model years.
Plan on about $1000-2000 to do the job. Here is a list I sent to a guy wanting to do a 65 Fury, your list would be a little different, of course.
steering column for floor shift console, console brackets, side bulge, upper plate, upper boot a tachometer was installed on 4-speed cars trans tunnel hump and shifter boot trans and shifter bellhousing, inspection cover, and clutch arm flywheel and clutch, release bearing Z-bar and pivot balls frame pivot bracket pedals (different between power brakes and manual brakes) and clutch rod to Z-bar 65-68 and 69-71 are different pedal setups
Some parts are not required if converting a console-auto car. Some parts not required if converting a bench-seat car. Some parts are not required if not needing it to 'look correct'.

There are some hydraulic clutch setups that would help these days too, but I would agree the pedal are probably your biggest hurdle. I'd sure have everything bought before I tore into the car....
That 4 spd. tranyy w/low 1st. gear is probably a truck tranny and 1st gear is WAY too low for performance use! 1st and 2nd will have too much of a spread!

I would doubt a New Process truck tranny would ever fit too, they are taller than a car tranny. Like I said, homework and parts in hand before tearing the car apart, otherwise it's likely to end in tears

Probably a NP435...that's the tranny they used in most of the trucks.

Hey Bob, If this is the S man getting to you isn't his tranny a early A ball/trunion model. I personally think your car is great how it is and would only do a swap if you wanted overdrive. I say just get your convertor figured out and the AC hooked up. Then you can crise to Bandimere in comfort and lay down an 11.
