My free 383 came with extras (knock knock knock) so I am looking at either a replacement or rebuilding. I have little faith in my local machine shops. But cost and time all are issues. Anyone have any experience with either a reman or crate?
I can do basic assembly if all machine work is done. I know the cylinders will need to be bored, so cost of new pistons is in the cost with machining. I can even do a little port matching. But with that I have seen reman motors going for 1300.00 with forged cranks and stock components. Machine work parts and gaskets, etc will run close to that if not over?? I just worry on the quality of all choices.
