Yeah believe it or not, I am asking a question. I'm usually the one with the answers. (Smart Butt or otherwise )
I am about to take delivery on my 72 Polara Custom. It currently has a 360 in it. I bought a 92 Dodge D150 with a 5.2 Magnum in it.
The mission is to upgrade my drive train by 20 years, taking advantage of the Multi-port EFI, and installing the 518 trans. The 518 is a lock-up over drive trans.
I need to know one of two things.
1 Does the oil pan on the D150 have the same sump as the 360, which appears to be a mid sump. I know Dakotas were a mid sump with a notch for the carrier. Maybe someone out there has a D150 they can look at?
2. We know there is a difference in the 318 and 360 pans. Does anyone know if the pan from the 72 360 will bolt on to the Magnum 318? There seems to be a concensis that it does. If this works, then my worries are over. If it doesn't then I have a new problem.
I am also trying to locate the following Roller cam Intake .373 Exhaust .400 Ex 248 Degrees In 240 Degrees Exhaust 16 Degrees ATC 52 Degrees BBC
Intake 50 Degrees ABC 10 Degrees 10 Degrees BTC
I just don't ant any surprises. I am planning the job out so I will be C Less as short as possible.

The 360 pan will not bolt up, the rear main cap is a different size, just like the older motors. The 92 truck should have a rear sump, instead of a mid sump. A 318 pan off of an older car should work. Did you get the wiring and the computer with the motor? It's easier to do the swap that way.

sent you some pictures from Mopar Action - Mopar Performance should have the center sump pass car pan, since it was on their crate motor (perfect for those who have forgotten the drain plug in the past.....)

Stitches TJ and I went through the Mopar Performance stuff. Would you believe you can buy the Crate Motor with the pan, but you cannot buy the pan separate? Go figure. I'm calling Crigs today to see what they have.
If Scotts 318 pan will work, that solves the problem. If not, then we go to plan "B" and cut the sump off the Maggie pan and weld the 360 pan to the Maggie flange. I know where there is a Plasma cutter and a welder on a cart.
Drain plug. . . . . This is me you're talking too. Like Butch, I just started doing this yesterday. . . .:)

You makin' fun of my age agin' ? Thems fitin' werds down here buddy! LOL! Actually more like over here I think?
Your gonna make me go look for a pan now aren't ya? I just threw a 318 pan & whole engine away a few months ago. Might have a 273 pass-car pan & it would be about the same. Gotta see how many are in left in stock.
I still have to go look for the other stuff for ya since I keep forgetting. I gotta check for a bumper Jack for the Demon too upstairs.
