I am to the stage of painting my battery tray, which had been replaced once, so I can't tell if it was black or body color. I know the inner fenders went in after the cars were painted, but what about the tray, anyone?

I'm gonna throw a wrench into this.....
I though I agreed at one point but.....I took the tray outta the 69 Fury Vert we did & started stripping it ( thinking also it would be black ). A previous owner had shot the firewall & everything black underhood, the F5 green was under it all except for the fenderwells of course.
The battery tray had F5 green under all the black! Surprised me! I started to wonder if they had bolted it to the radiator wall & painted them both? I did put it back that way since the owner though it was right but I'm still not sure about that. Might have just been that line or plant? It was a Hamtramck car.
I still think the black is probably right, I did mine that way since I saw no evidence of color on it either. Course it was rusted bad anyway. It does go bettr witht he black fenderwells in my opinion.

My guess is plant/shift. Mine was a nice primer brown with a part # in white stencil paint, so I know it had been replaced, but in looking at the bolts to the core support, there is paint on them! The donor car was all black (done at a later date). The inner fenders are easier to get in with the tray out, but I do like the look of the body color tray (not that you can see it). An interesting footnote, it looks like my ac condenser was in place BEFORE it was blacked out behind the grille. Anyone else?

I have two very origional 70 300's, and the tray should be body color. In fact when you look at the paint applied under the tray, there is hardly any at all. So I believe the radiator support may have been painted after being installed, with the tray in place.
My 69 Fury ragtop was given to me by the original owner. It had never been apart and the battery tray was body color...what was left of it, anyway. Car was built at Hamtramck late in the model year.
