So I just got the motor back from the maching shop. Its a 67 sport fury 383. Im looking at getting the b-body shorties, but need to know what to look for and need to get. Please help.
It is probably because its far easier to install the shorties: C bodies have their torsion bars close together like an A body, so it's harder to fit long tubes, but I prefer the performance (low end torque) of the long tubes.
TTi and hooker make c body headers but they are expensive. The super comp with 1 3/4 tubes did really well on my car. I know have the TTi 1 7/8 and they fit great and breathe very well from the mid range up but do sacrifice some low end compared to the 1 3/4 tubes.Torque is king in a heavy barge.
I fought with both the TTI and Hooker 5113 Headers on my 65 Sport Fury, I finally bought a set of Schumacher Tri-Y's and they fit perfectly, if fact I installed them from the top of the car and it may have taken 5 minutes to get both of them in place. The car is a 383 Automatic with 906 Heads, the headers are thick and well made, they use the Mopar Flanges (same as the Exhaust Manifolds). I am very happy with them and would buy again.
