I blew a valve cover off trying to start a car in 10°F weather by dumping ether into the carb. That came out of my paycheck.
I bet it was fun to watch too
All part of doing, screwing, learning, and never doing it again.
We've taken that away from today's yutes.
I don't entirely agree, WE didn't take it away. The process still remains, although now we are recognized for being sadistic bastards while we allow learning to take it's natural course and cement the results with "you won't do that again".
The biggest problem I see is the doing... too many afraid to even try to engage a problem... then if they do, after the screwing they simply walk away having only learned not to do anything at all. In my life, that would have been cured by starvation, provided I chose to walk away from a mess I'd created... another trait I wasn't allowed to learn.
Every parent with a non-engaging adult child living in their home and justifying their lack of engagement is a part of the enabling that supports the behavior.
Right now they are swearing at me through their computer screen
