Did Chrysler paint HP440's orange over blue paint? How do I find out specific year of this engine? Car was abused before me and maybe was in a wreck. Many things were rigged up and didn't line up when I got it. I've been fixing things for years. I'm having issues with clearance between steering and pan. Its been rubbing, (scoring pan) for a long time and I'm finally trying to fix it. After replacing engine and tranny mounts with additional spacer, I''ve got about 1/16" clearance but still way too close. I'm about 1/2" from engine hitting hood so I can't figure this out. Were the engine mounts, oil pans, etc all the same for all 440's?
What do you guys think about denting in existing oil pan? Steel must be brittle after 50 years so it will leak, but I think I can weld it back up. I only put about 500 miles/yr on this car.
Or replacing pan with custom expensive slender pan? Do I need to jack up engine to remove pan? Looks like I might be able to slide it out if I remove steering rod or will crank or tranny be in the way? I've never hoisted up an engine before.
