Just starting on my new project, replacing my original 64,000 mile 383 4 barrel motor, with a 2010 5.7 Hemi Wondering if anyone has tried anything like this, and can advise me what to avoid.
I will be selling the motor and trans. I am redoing the interior on my '40 Ford, so this won't be happening until probably November. It is an original 4 bbl. 383, with 64,600 miles, and runs like a dream. I'll probably take a video of it before I pull it out.

64,000 miles on a 383/727 is nothing. Possibly 164,000 miles? I would LOVE such a gem. The 5.7 swap is getting more and more popular. There is a thread or two here on the dock. Please keep us advised on the process.
I'm located in Prescott, AZ. and the wagon has 64,600 original miles. This car has no rust, and documentation as to mileage. I plan to tow with it, and the 383 without overdrive is just not going to cut it. I had the rear bumper re chromed, and during that time , I re enforced the rear bulkhead and put a receiver behind the bumper with access behind a pull down license plate frame.

Since the car sounds like it's in excellent condition including the original engine, have you considered putting an overdrive behind the original engine? There is the Gear Vendors overdrive which bolts to your existing A727, or an A904 trans could be mated to it with either a JW Ultra Bell or an adapter plate. The A904 would also get you a lockup torque converter.

Sounds like a neat project. Always was a fan of the "Long Roof" wagons. Got pic.s? Wish I could get my hands on that barely used drive-train, but I live too far away. I am sure someone will be glad to have it. Looking forward to your progress.
