Your post wasn’t messed up - even some of those links refer to the u-bolt style as “straps.” I think more my fault for never having heard that term used.

Would be interesting to understand what forces really are applied to them? Is it just the need to hold the shaft from going for and aft as the suspension travels?

By my estimation, the u-joint is trying to bail out of the yoke (proportional to load). Well beneath the force to overcome the UTS of 4X (your preferred fastener method), but then consider that one properly torqued 1/4-28 cap screw (grade eight) exerts just over 4,000lbs.
Or imagine if you R&R’d the driveshaft, left them off and tried to drive away: 400 ft-lb espresso bean grinder!

funny story, I once forgot the c clips in the cups when doing the rear joint in the fury. It made it 1/4mi down and then almost 1/4mi back before the cup squirted out. I got it stopped before the joint broke and beat stuff up.
the rotational force is trying to push it out of the yoke? Certainly on launch the shaft would come out of the trans a bit if the rear is affixed, so it could just drop out I suppose, but that's because the suspension is separating (for a SS sprung car anyway)

Did that once years ago on the race car. Running leaf springs at that time - ran low 11's. At the launch dropped the driveshaft, bent the driveshaft, broke the transmission housing extension and bent the tranny output shaft. Expensive lesson.
