Hey everyone I'm new to the c body scene. Recently picked up a 67 fury III wagon. The owners lost the keys unfortunately and the back window on the tailgate was left down about 2 in since it was parked around 14+ yrs. Me and my friend managed to get the window down but now we can't get it to back up, it seems like it's Stuck. It's a manual crank and we can't seem to get back up. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
You can download a factory service manual which will have lots of info on the tailgate mechanism.
Does the crank handle spin freely when you try to raise it or does it just not want to move and feel jammed? I am not familiar with manual crank tailgates as mine is power... but the reason I ask those questions is that on my car there's some sort of interlock with the power crank mechanism that prevents it from being raised if it thinks the tailgate is open. Since the glass sits in a channel when raised this is to prevent the glass from being smashed if raised all the way up when the gate is open then closed with the glass hitting the sides and top of the roof. Perhaps there is a similar thing for a manual tailgate window.
Otherwise your mechanism may simply be broken or need lubrication. You can remove the inside panels on the gate to see the mechanism.
Hey thanks for replying, where could I locate the manual ? The handle definitely spind freely.now I'm wondering if we were doing it wrong, we were trying to pull up the window when the tailgate was down. It would make since if it would lock to prevent it from coming up. It's a bummer no keys are with the car
You might want to try the other C Body forum called ForCBodiesOnly - a lot of knowlege over there and potentially much faster responses. They'll be able to tell you where to download the manuals.
