So I have straps now. 3rd member is with my friend getting a 35spline spool and gears installed. I'm looking for the strongest solution. Do I change to u bolts, or do I buy the u joint girdles. What is stronger?

I'm going to just go with the u bolts. For now I'm using the 8.75 with 3.73 and 35spline spool and axles. Hoping it will hold up for a bit. I will be putting some drag radial on another set of wheels and have caltracs so we will see how it likes getting this boat moving. I'm thinking the oem driveshaft might be my weak link now

Not to step on what Bode said (because it makes sense), but when you order a full-boogie rear-end from Strange, they give you caps. Reasons are: you can distort (destroy) the bearing races with the U-bolts, and the clamping force from straight fasteners is more consistent / repeatable.
My vote is caps if you have room (and if you haven’t ordered them already, haha). OTOH as Bode said, you’ll wreck stuff if you lack the clearance for them!

My Dana S60 (Strange) I bought last year came with a 1350 yoke with straps. I am not sure if I have ever seen a 1350 yoke that had caps. Possible, but just never seen it.
Been running the same straps on my Dana in the race car since 2001 with great results. 3450 lbs, 800 hp 720 ft-lbs torque.
Now it is common on a 7260 or 7290 yoke to go with caps and quality bolts with a cap is adequate for a lot of abuse.

No arguing at all that U bolt-style will take a ton of punishment. My mistake for thinking "straps" were the (stock) stamped sheetmetal pieces that get bolted to the yoke.
For your consideration, though, here's what my bud Shaun got with his 1350 yoke 9" - like flj's first link.

Boy - I seriously messed up my post - I should of read what I wrote before I posted them! LOL! I hope you read what I meant not what I wrote! I should fix it..........
Those Strange pieces are very nice! Kinda pricey though. My concern on stock caps is the bolts and threads in the yokes not the cap itself. The Strange pieces look like they have that nicely covered.
To be clear, I am calling the stock style a cap and the 1350 straps - like this.....
