Late 50s /early 60s I'm guessing. I believe that they came out of Imperials. Recent acquisition I inherited. Any help in the years involved would be appreciated.
Anywhere from 1958 through 1966 from the looks of them. They changed their shape in '67, and then soon after went to vacuum controlled units.
There was a number of lawsuits regarding uncontrolled acceleration experiences. Due to the electromechanical design which required periodic servicing of large point sets inside the units, the points could fuse without warning in acceleration mode. Turning the unit off at the dash or pressing the brake would not disengage tne unit when this occured...
There will be a Mopar part number on the red label - the earlier number as you know, the earlier the date.
They were available on Imps and Chrylers first, then branched out to the top line Dodge and Plymouth cars around 1959 or 1960.
The exact same units by the way were used on Cadillacs, Buick and Olds cars as well during the same time period, and look identical.
