I finally got around to replacing my damaged front fenders and the passenger door on my '68 VIP. Also pulled out a damaged section and replaced the broken pot metal driver side quarter panel extension. While the car is a long long way from perfect is at least looking a lot better. The passenger door is from my '67 Sport Fury fast top and the fenders I got from Jason (68plymouth383). The new quarter panel extension is from eBay and I transferred the old tail light trim to it because I had nothing better yet. All of the trim I transferred back except for the right front fender upper wheel well trim. That was also from my '67 Sport Fury and trimmed to fit the '68. The original had too much damage to reuse.
Looking great. What color do you plan on painting it. The stock one on the trim tag,or some other color because the black interior would go with about 90% of the exterior paint. Are you going single stage paint? This is going to look awesome when finished

Thanks. I want to paint it the same as original on the tag and I'm thinking of doing a single stage paint without the clear coat. I have mixed feelings about clear coat. Looks great while it lasts but it's a pain to remove when it goes bad. My other project is to remove the clear coat my dad sprayed on my '79 St. Regis back when he repainted it (it was his car at the time) and paint it as close to original as possible. That '79 paint is insanely hard to find and I've found a single stage paint online that's very close to the original for that car but really want the same factory colour for the VIP as it was born with.

Looking good Starship! I agree repainting in the original RR1 red. That was the color of my dad's 68 Fury III sedan when I was a kid. It is a very rick looking color that looks great with a black interior.

Thanks! Seeing some progress on the car feels really good. I'm gearing up for figuring out how to go about the quarter panel patches. Fortunately, I was able to get some tools for flanging and bending that I hope will make it go easier. Most of the remaining original paint actually still shines up pretty nice, but I look forward to seeing the whole car look it did the day I first saw her.

I finally also got around to doing the Putco wiring harness/relay installation today and it reminded me that I forgot to mention that I discovered that the VIP still has working all four of her original headlights which surprised me greatly. My dad figured that between my grandfather, my uncle who had the car before him and the original owner, the VIP must not have been driven much at night.
