Ha! you youngsters break me up with your iPad/iPods/iPhones/iWatches/iMax world. Of all the things I remember from my youth, nothing and I mean absolutely nothing, beats accompanying a sweet young lady to a drive-in movie in a huge car like a C-Body.
Back in the day, drive-in movie theatres were revered by all hormonally charged teens.
By the way, my "sweet young lady" ended up being my wife, 2015 is our 49th year and no more drive-in's since I now have a big screen, a killer Bose sound system and a lazy boy even larger than the back seat of a C-Body!!!

This summer you can experience something in Edmonton that you haven’t been able to since 1996… go to see a movie at a drive-in theater.
Silver Spur Drive-In will take over the north parking lot of Telus Field this summer and show movies on a screen that’s 40 feet wide and 22 feet tall.
Fred Thompson, president of the company, tells iNews880, the drive-in will play a good mix of older movies and some that were released this year.
“I don’t have the ability to show releases right when they come out but I can show movies before they’re released on Blu-Ray and DVD,” explains Thompson. “After the first batch of movies, we’re going to start showing some of the bigger movies from the springtime.”
Thompson says he wanted to open a drive-in theatre after having a bad experience at an indoor theatre. He thought drive-in theatres don’t have people talking near you, kicking your seat and other nuisances and wondered why they were no longer around.
He decided to head to NAIT business school and focused his two years there on developing a plan to open a drive-in movie theatre. Thompson worked for a year after leaving NAIT and bought the equipment needed to start his business and last year did some outdoor movie showings last summer.
Back in the 1970′s Edmonton had the most drive-in theatres in North America, sitting with 10 at one time, and Thompson says it is a bit odd that Edmontonians embraced drive-ins back then and again now because we have such long sunny days that keep films from starting until late at night.
He says the plan is to have this temporary drive-in at Telus Field’s parking lot and approached a representative from the Edmonton Oilers, who has been excellent at helping set up the drive-in, and was able to work out a deal to use the lot.
Thompson says the first three movies, which will play July 2nd, 4th and 5th, hopes to make drive-in theatres a permanent fixture in Edmonton again. Ferris Bueller’s Day off will play July 2nd, Megamind July 4th and 500 Days of Summer will show on July 5th, all of them starting at 9:45pm as the sun sets. (twd)
That is an AWESOME idea. Hope it gets good reviews, and by the way.....those 1st movies are all killer. The young generation will get a kick out of them especially 500 days of summer. I've owned my Monaco since the early 80's and when i lived in Calgary i put 3 girls into the Trunk and i paid my $5 at the time for my share only at the Corral 4 Drive-in. Backed up to the fence, they got out and we had a blast. Another time in the later 70's,me and my buddy went to the drive-in with my 71' 340 Duster in Winnipeg. We laid on the hood with our backs on the windshield and the hood scoop separating us. On the hood scoop was a Coleman water cooler filled with pre-made margarita with crushed ice. We even had the little umbrella's in the glasses. That's the night i met a girlfriend. MAN I MISS THAT era. Too bad the young generation will miss that. I would love to bring one of my nieces to one of those,.....Just go back in time. I would show her uncle glen is not the same person as i used to be. In my mind "yes" ....but the body say's NO!!!

Ahh, those were the days my friends, we thought they'd never end. Glad to hear some one has finally seen the light and done it again. Hope it catches on every where. The last drive in here disappeared over 2 decades ago. The site was vacant for years and years. Marque showed "Gone with the wind" for several years. after the screen finally blew down. Trailer sales there now. There is a place in Door County, from what I have heard the movies aren't golden oldies. I saw Mad Maxx, Crazy Harry&Dirty Mary, Bullet, Gone in 60 seconds. Car Wash, American Graffiti, Holly Wood Nights, Porkies, and so many more at the drive in. Great way to spend a Friday or Saturday night. Bring a date or find one there. Yes we did the trunk trick too. Not like the theater didn't know. Some times we got away with it and some times we did not. Now you got me feeling nostalgic.
