with a lower profile tire. I appreciate any help you guys can give me!
There have been quite few threads on this subject over the years. It would be worth going back and looking a few of those up.
If you get away from the stock rims then the new rims will not be hub centric. This is something that you should look into and be aware of because there are certain consequences.
Also part of the issue when you get to larger than factory tires and rims is not just will it fit when mounted on the axle but can you get the wheel into where is is going.
I have 255/60/15s on factory 7" steel rims on my 67 Polara and there is more room for the tire/wheel once mounted on the axle but I do not think that i could actually get anything bigger into the rear wheel well.
Similar story for the 255/70/15s mounted on my 69 Imperial.
The other issues not yet addressed is with a larger Wheel and Tire size is can you turn while going over any bump ( as going from a street into a Parking lot ) ? Can you carry any passengers in the rear seat or any luggage in the Trunk - with-out a Tire rubbing the inner fender with a bump ( high speeds some times cause a downward force ) ?
Will The Fifth Unit ( aka The Spare ) fit as they proved ?

Guys all good thoughts and I appreciate the quick response. I think that the plan going forward is to bring the car into a shop on the wheels we have now and have a professional measure the space we've got and provide some advice. The car should be completely finished late June so stay tuned for a picture thread!
