My trunk vacuum release works when the engine is running but not when stopped. I checked using the vacuum gauge and the output of the can behind the carb drops to 0 immediately on engine shutdown.
Does anyone know if the can is supposed to have a check valve to hold vacuum after shutdown, or not?
On a side note, do any of the Canadians on board know who sells 1/8" I.D. vac line in Canada? I've struck out at Carquest and PartSource. Still need to try NAPA.

There must be some sort of valve. I know mine holds vacuum and works even if the car has been sitting for weeks unstarted. Funny thing is I didn't even realise it was vacuum operated until I was perusing the FSM the other day. I thought the canister was something to do with the Cali clean air pack, and that the trunk release was a solenoid due to the solid 'thunk' when operating. I'll dig the FSM out of the shed and see if it goes into more detail.

The FSM doesn't go into much more detail other than a diagram showing the basic vac line routing, canister location etc. it does mention that any vacuum leak should cause rough idling.
