Hey guys,
My 71 Sport Fury 4dr arrived from New Jersey to Canberra Australia a week ago.
Its had a faulty fuel level system, I replaced the sender with a new one, still no good?
Figured maybe the gauge is faulty or the wiring for it is, how do I get the last large section of the speedo cluster out?
On the Aussie RHD versions I normally drop the column down and she pulls right out?
I have disconnected the gear indicator needle
Lowered the column by undoing the 2 nuts either side that mount it to the dash structure but she still wont go down and the cluster wont move??
The screw above the wiper switch is undone but stays in the cluster.
Any ideas please?
ps
please don't vomit at the butchered mess of the steal dash that's missing due to idiot, not the guy I bought it off but the idiot he rescued it from, who cut up the dash to fit a junk radio in the hole!!!!

I would also pull the bezel on the left for wiggle room and did you disconnect the speedometer cable? They aren't long enough to pull out through the front.

It's hard to tell from here, but looking at that second picture, it appears the column needs to be removed. If it wont drop anymore go under the hood and disconnect it from the gear shift linkage and the steering box .Then you can pull it back towards the seat to make more room for the cluster to come out.

I finally got it out..much swearing and spitting...seems the D!CKHEAD who installed the crap stereo thought it would be a good idea to tape up the wire loom and put it all in a metal loop up the back???.....finally got it all free, got it out found a wire not connected to the back of the guage, also found the speaker floating around in there, when I get it secured its magnet hits the back of the clock!...FML just wished I'd left it alone now...now looking for a 3" speaker to go in there...and a 7yr old with tiny hands and is good with hand tools!

If you find that 7 yr old, I could use his or her help too. Not uncommon for stereos to be hacked in. The metal strap mess was probably an attempt at theft proofing.
