On September 28 2014 Beckman Motor Co. celebrated their 100th anniversary in the automobile business with a car cruise & customer appreciation day. Beckmans has been a mainstay in the southern Pittsburgh boro of Mt. Oliver since 1914. They became a Chrysler Plymouth franchise in the 1930s and remained one until 2008 when Chrysler Corp. put the screws to them & several other long time family owned dealers. They still sell & service used cars & have a faithful & loyal customer base that began generations ago. I was 8 years old when my dad took me there to look at a 68 Fury they had on their used car lot. He bought that Fury III & I was enthralled with the looks and styling of the car I grew up in. There was also Hoebler Chevrolet and Sable Motors, an AMC dealer, just a few blocks away but my grandfather bought Plymouths from Beckmans so my dad and uncle did too. Beckman Motor Co. is the reason I love Mopars in general and Plymouth Furys in particular. The cruise was a homecoming of sorts for a lot of customers and a bunch of old friends and their cars. We all had a great time. Here are some pics. My Fury is the 2nd to last pic in front of the show room, under the marquee.
