For a while I've wanted a plate to put on the front of my Lebaron that included the Imperial eagle and the name plate with the font used in literature and ads. I was looking through the Imperial website and decided that the cover of the 1963 owners manual had what I wanted. I copied it and printed it out in standard license plate format, 6" x 12" and laminated it. I don't know if this is appropriate to post here, so let me know....

Looks good.
Since a front license plate is required where I live, I was wondering what would be a good way to attach decorative plates to just put over my regular plates when at a car show, and remove when leaving.

try attaching your "custom" plate over your dmv plate with flexible frig magnet sheets. Staples sells the flexible magnet sheets pre-cut to business card size. One side has contact adhesive to attach to your business card, but will stick to most surfaces.

I thought about that Bill, but Ontario plates changed from steel to aluminum. I have to check if my plates are old enough to still be made out of steel, but I don't think they are.
I also considered putting large washers in the corners where they are bolted to the bumper, and attaching ring magnets to the back of the vanity plates.
I just had another thought. On my car I think both front and rear plates are attached by the holes in the bottom, which means the top holes in the plates are unused. I could attach some hooks to the back of the vanity plates, and hook those through the top holes on my real plates.

Maybe try "rare earth" button magnets sold by Lee Valley. They are pretty strong and might just hold to the metal plate behind the dmv plate. Another thought, epoxy a rare earth magnet or two on the back side of the dmv plate and then use matching magnets on your vnity plate. That should attract through the alum dmv plate. Food for thought.
