Guys
Does anyone know anything about the differences with the valve lifter between 67 and 68 in the 440?
There was a change in the lifter oil feed drillings with respect to the height on the lifter and you are not to use the 68 and later lifters on the 67 and earlier blocks.
I have looked and cant find much on this. Back about 5 years ago i used the post 68 lifter on the pre 67 383 and no problems so far.
I am rebuilding a 67 440 and need to figure this out before i get the cam and lifter.

That was when they changed the diameter of the ball ends on the pushrods. The early lifters have a smaller cup and the early pushrods have a correspondingly small ball on the end. You can use 1968+ lifters as long as you use the matching pushrods, which have larger ends. A long time ago I posted a picture of the different lifters side-by-side.
