repainting my 66 Newport and the rubber seals around the edge of the fender skirts is dry rotted ...anybody know of replacements or fix? want to keep them
Ten years ago we used something from Steele Rubber to do this. I can't remember if it was a dedicated part or a universal part, I may still have the receipt in my collection and will try to check tonight. Right now it appears that they sell two products which may be helpful, one is a sheet of masticated rubber, another is called a "universal trim pad". If you have a sample of the old stuff, search for "fender skirt" they have it for a bunch of other applications, maybe something else might be close enough.
Ebay has LOTS of "fender skirt seals" out there - just pop it into there and have a look. Our skirts use a simple 3/4" wide strip with at small raised profile along one edge. Many of the sellers have lots of stock of different profiles.
Many different versions out there.
Steele rubber has quite a few varieties too. Note that they use the word "fenderskirt" rather than two separate words.

The original rubber gaskets are attached to the skirts with super heavy STAPLES that were stapled right through the sheetmetal. Are the replacement ones attached with an adhesive backing?
