I would think the hedman shorty headers would work as well as the Schumacher tri-y headers as well.A small starter will be required. It depends on your build but a C body driver's side and any body passenger side hp manifold will work fine on a mild street motor.

Ok. The thing is, that I don't want the headers for performance reasons. Sure there would be an extra, when I put in another camshaft, heads and so on (that's my plan for the future). I want the headers because I want to built a stainless steel exhaust. So I thought that stainless stell headers would be good. Because of the look, because stainless steel and "normal" steel (from the original manifold) don't like each other when hot (don't know the right words in english) and a bit because of the sound. Iwould like those "full length" headers which reach under the car. Do you know any specific, that would fit?
Enjoying your car as you see fit is up to you and only you. If that means putting headers on it, go for it!
Regarding the stainless and non-stainless mating issues, keep in mind that there is supposed to be a gasket/isolator that goes between the manifold or header flange and the exhaust pipe that will eliminate any of the issues you're concerned about.
I'm going to put a stainless system on my car, and will be retaining the stock manifolds, and have no concerns.
I don't know what headers will work, but others here will know. You can always put the system on using the stock manifolds for now, and then put the headers on later. You'll need to cut and modify the exhaust pipes to fit, but a good exhaust tech who knows his way around a pipe bending machine should be able to do that retrofit.
I would probably contact TTi exhaust and see if anyone has put their C body headers on a 74.Hooker makes/used to make a super comp header for C bodies but you would need to look them up and see if the 74 model year is included in the fitment.

I have TTI's on my 65 Fury 383 and they fit perfect and dump in just the right spot as far as my crossmember goes. No mater what starter you use, the left header has to be unbolted. Tried a Bosch mini which cranks like hell but still not enough room to wiggle it in with the header in place. Mind you, TTI's headers are sized for their respective purpose so the tubes aren't like 1 7/8. Mine are in perfect shape after four years use and most people can't say that about other brands that darken and rust. My only gripe is that before I bought the Edlebrock aluminum heads, coolant leaked from the iron original heads every time I loosened the headers because the iron heads did not have blind bolt holes. Actually and surprisingly the entire exhaust system from TTI fit perfect front to back and took but a couple hours to install. I suppose in the end, you buy what you can afford and TTI's aren't the cheapest on the market.
