Hey guys I was wondering what sort of problems I might run into trying to swap a 1970 318 in place of my poly 318 in my 66 fury. I've read that it will bold right up to the transmission, leaving out one bolt that I don't need. But my concern is that the 1966 727 torqueflite is the last year with a 19 spline input shaft; I think I will have to replace this and the rear clutch piston retainer, any thoughts?

The 19-spline input shaft won't be a problem if you're reusing the original torque converter. Or are you worried that the 19-spline shaft won't take the torque from the newer engine?
I ran the factory 1966 727 behind my stroker for years without any problem, though I wasn't beating it up with smoky burnouts etc. either. I later added a shift kit and part-throttle kickdown onto the valvebody. (I highly recommend both mods.)

I put a '67 up stater support in every '66 727 I've built. It bolts right on the front pump and works perfectly. You now have a huge selection of converters. My $.02

Ok, well I will just use the original torque converter and try installing the engine. Just like to ask extra questions just to be sure. Thanks a bunch.
66 monaco 500: so the '67 up starter support allows different torque converters, even if you have the 19 spline input shaft?
The 1970 Engine will have a looong nosed Water Pump vs the short one on the 1966 engine. These two are swappable if you can not move The Radiator forward.
------------ If the Oil Pan of the 1970 engine has its Slump in a "not to good of a location" --- this is another item that bolts to either engine.

Hey Rodger, it seems last time we were also discussing radiator clearance issues; I think it was about how there isn't enough room to put a later model clutch fan in your 1946 Plymouth (or chrysler?) I was sort of looking forward to using that long snout water pump from the LA 318, but now, I will probably switch it for the same old water pump I was using previously.
Due to the storage and moving of the 1970 LA 318, the flexplate got a little bent. I guess I should replace it, my question here being: should I / can I use the flexplate that is on the poly motor? I've read that there are different size flexplates and different size bolt holes for certain years and models.
On the 1970 LA 318 I noticed two bolt holes, one on either side of the block, level with the motor mounts, that appear to have held bolts. I'm wondering what these might be for. (trying to post a photo but to no avail)

Thank u : Mikes66Chryslers
I'm much more familiar with big blocks, but this sounds the same. If so, those two holes will be for alignment dowel pins. There should be two pins sticking out of the transmission bellhousing which fit in those holes as you mate the engine and trans together. These keep the engine and trans lined-up while you bolt them together.
