My service manual does not show the rod well. I can not get it out through the plug hole because it only comes down just a 1/2 inch or so and stops solid. Does it have a retainer clip or pin or should it just pull straight out?? And does anyone want to buy a 66 Sport Fury before I set it a blaze !stop

Calm down! If you removed the plug and it stops part way down, that is simply because of the WEAR PATTERN on the rod causing it to "hang up" in the block. You know....that and normal VARNISH from the oil. It can be pulled out with a small amount of ARM STRENGTH and something to protect the rod while pulling it to prevent knicks! !thumb Tony P.
Got it out and found the rod is about 1/4 of an inch too short. It is severely worn on the cam end. The shop that built the motor said they used a new rod but this is not new. I will be ordering a new rod and changing the oil to remove any metal, hopefully I dont need to tear down.
Don't sweat a teardown. The rod has probably been wearing down very slowly for a long time. Maybe even in someone else's engine, if this is a new build !!!
Cut your filter open, if no sizable metal pieces. Drive On.
