My 440 is completely rebuilt with minor modications, .03 over, KB Hyper Flat tops, 440 Source H-Beam rods, rotating assembly is balanced, modified windage tray, unknown/warmer cam - RV?, MP aluminum water pump housing, 71 heads with valve job and new stock spec springs, stock intake, Edelbrock Thunder AVS 800 cab. I realize the carb is a bit over the top, but I plan to add aluminum heads soon and couldn't see buying a small carb to replace it in 9 months. Carter high volume mechanical fuel pump. MP version of the MSD 6AL, MP electronic distributor. Very free flowing exhaust, 3" TTI Headers into 3" aluminized pipes and Vortex mufflers.
The motor runs pretty good up to about 4500 rpm, then it just acts like it losing power. When raising the RPMs in park it acts like it is bogging or hitting a rev limiter. There is a 7000 RPM chip in the MSD. Could I just be hitting the limit of the stock intake to feed the cylinders? IS the cam failing to keep it all fed? or could the vavles be floating? I question whether they actually changed the springs.

Scott, you're on the right track! First, the type of cam, the degree the gears are set at and the springs are ALL suspect! Also, is the distributor set up with a good curve? Is the throttle opening up all the way? Check all the above! Tony P.

Yes, these guys could be on to something with the MSD! In theory, it could be posiable to have a limit chip that is defective or just labeled wrong. I know this is a long stretch, but just another thing to test out! Tony P.

Yes, removing the chip will remove the limiter so a heads up if your testing, don't want to see a post about how many rods are poking out of the oil pan
