Hey there,
New to the forums, but I have lurked around a bit looking for the info that I am looking for but wasn't able to find it.
If it has already been discussed please just link me to the thread, thanks.
I have a 1970 Plymouth Fury 4 door with a 383 Super Commando.
It is 100% original, but needs some love. I am planning on putting some new wheels on it and replacing the suspension. C Bodies don't seem to have a very large aftermarket and there is only a limited amount of information that I have been able to find.
I would like to put some pretty beefy wheels on her and am shopping around for 15x8 up front and 15x10 in the rear. I understand you guys use the term backspacing when referring to offset, but am unfamiliar with what the difference is. I have built many Japanese cars over the years (AE86, Miata, Rx7, Supra) and the difference in terminologies is driving me crazy.
A 15x10 -38 wheel is considered to have a 4" backspace? How does that work?
What is the largest wheel width I can stuff under the Fury with out having to roll the fenders?

Nice looking Fury!
Terminology - a diagram for you.
15x8 will fit front and back as long as the tire sizes are not too wide a profile. 15x10 maybe pushing it without switch to a narrower rear end.
I'm looking to put 5x8 on my car with 235-70R15 front and 275-60R15 rear. Those tires have the same diameter as the stock H70 x 15 tires so the speedometer will still read correctly.

Thanks a lot Rick,
I am not set on the Soft 8s but I am going for a little bit of an unconventional look I guess. Hope that doesn't rub most of the users here the wrong way.
Any idea what sort of room I have to work with? I am alright with tight I have had 16x9s on a first generation miata lol...
Your opinion is appreciated, any other suggestions for wheels?

Thanks for the suggestions guys, but I am more concerned with performance, sizing, fitment and offset than appearance.
I have the stock chasers with the original Plymouth racing devision hubcaps for when I want her to sit around and look pretty, these are the wheels that are meant to be driven on and beat upon. The car will be auto-crossed. I compete regularly in SCCA.

Why do you want to autocross a barge? Big, heavy, sloppy handing C bodies are best as highway cruisers--I could see auto crossing an A or E body... Oh well, to each his own!
One important thing is to get a different oil pan for your motor - most of the stock ones don't even have a baffle and it is very easy to uncover the pickup and loose oil pressure. None of the B/E body factory or aftermarket pans will fit without being significantly altered with a torch and welder- the idler arm gets in the way.
