Hi everbody, i want to replace wheels and tires on my 71 Polara. Now there are steel rims 15 x 5,5 ", 5x4,5" with the 225/75 R15 wheels. I would like to buy black steelies and dog dish caps with these dimensions: 255/60 R15-front and 275/60 R15-rear.What types of rims and backspacing you recommend ? Is it possible to apply dog dish caps to 15x5,5" rims also? What are max. tires dimensions for these rims 15x5,5" ? Thks Hrada

You can purchase stock 7" black steel wheels from later 70's early 80's mopars fairly cheap. You can fit 275's on them though I believe it is not recommended BUT they do work and fit. You dont want 255's on the front, too wide!

255/60-15's will fit without problems on a fusey in the front. Had them on my '72 Fury wagon. You could go with a set of the Mopar "cop car" rims, which are 15x7. They were used from 1978-89. The most common Mopar 15x7 rim was used on the Diplomats, Gran Furys, and Fifth Avenues starting some time in the early to mid eighties. Either of these will take any of the 70's vintage dog dish caps. You may be able to find a Dip or a 5th Ave in a boneyard over in Europe, since they made so many of them. I know that the Russians were using American police cars for a while, though they may have all been Fords.
The max tire size for the 5.5 rims is what you have: 225/75-15. On a 60 series tire, the widest would be around a 205/60-15, and that would be a bit of a squeeze to get on the narrow rims.

I would suggest 8 inch wide rims with a 4.5 inch backspacing. I have this size (Magnums) on my 1969 Newport with 245/60s on the front and 255/60s on the back. I believe that 275/60s would fit on the back. I don't know if 255s will fit on the front.

The top ones are stock replacement the second set is the cop car rims mentioned earlier. I like the first ones as well. I beleive with the company your looking at you can order any size width & back space. I like those center caps as well. Great choice. !thumb

I have 255/70/R15 tires on stock steel wheels on my 69 LeBaron all the way around. So even bigger than the 255/60/R15 and they fit at the front and look great.
The stock steel 15" x 7" wheels are available from local salvage yards pretty cheap and were used until the end of rear wheel drive car production. I picked up a set from an 86 Diplomat for $12 each. I have them with a set of dog dish hub caps from a 67 Dart on my 67 Polara convertible. Right now the tires are 235/75/R15s but I will be changing to probably 255/60/R15s before next summer.

I assumed it was implied but I guess not. The wheels are 15x7 steelies from an early 80's Mopar. This car had the 255's on the back and 235's up front. I purchased the 255's because at the time of purchase the 275's were unobtainable.
My personal preference is that 255's are too wide up front.

How so Jeff? the 225 is wider and taller than the 205.
